da fazobetai: Cancelo was a surprise absentee from Barcelona's 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Sunday in La Liga. The defender was left out of the squad as a "precaution" and on "medical advice", according to RAC1. The report claims that Barca "want to rule out" the possibility of a heart condition as a relative of Cancelo's has been diagnosed with an issue. Martinez has now offered an update on Cancelo, who is part of his Portugal squad for friendlies over the international break.

He told a press conference: "We need to look natural. The noise is not a right noise. We are working, Cancelo is on the list for the second game, we are working on how to monitor the players as we do, we work with the club like Barcelona, but now there is no reason to be alert."
THE BIGGER PICTURE
News of a potential heart condition is obviously of great concern and the hope will be that Cancelo is given the all clear as soon as possible. Martinez certainly seems to be optimistic that the defender, who is a key player for club and country, will be able to join up with the squad over the international break as he finalises preparations for Euro 2024.
